How Much Is a Cooking Class in Athens?

Athens cooking class prices from a roof-garden class to a rooftop dinner with an Acropolis view: what each price includes, what is extra, and which is worth it.

Updated October 2026

Athens cooking classes run from about $55 to about $123 per person (checked October 2026). Every price includes the ingredients, the class and the meal you cook; most include at least a glass of wine. What the higher prices buy is a market visit, a rooftop dinner, a bigger menu or a smaller group, not a better meal as such.

What decides the price

The setting. A rooftop costs more than a studio or a garden, and the rooftop class also leaves drinks off the bill.

The market. A class that takes you shopping first adds an hour or so of a cook’s time.

The time of day. Dinner classes in the evening tend to sit at the top of the range; morning and afternoon classes in the middle.

Group size. The smallest groups (around 10) are not always the dearest: the roof-garden class caps at 10 and is the cheapest here.

Which is the best value?

For a first class, the market class. It is in the middle of the range and includes as much as any of them: the market walk with your cook, five dishes, wine and soft drinks, a shot of liqueur and the recipes. It is also the most-reviewed class in Athens on GetYourGuide.

Is food cheap in Athens?

Compared with most Western European capitals, eating out in Athens is good value, especially away from the streets right below the Acropolis. A souvlaki or gyros wrapped in pita is one of the cheapest good meals in Europe, and the mageireia around the Central Market serve home-style baked dishes at low prices. A cooking class is not a cheap meal, but it is a meal plus three or four hours of a cook’s time, and you take the recipes home. Tips are not compulsory in Greece; leaving a little for good service is normal, and the etiquette guide explains how.
