How a Rooftop Cooking Class Works
An evening on a roof terrace. Four things to know before you book.
Book the Evening
The class is timed so that dinner is eaten after dark, with the Acropolis and the Parthenon lit up. In summer that is late; in winter it is early evening.
Find the Kitchen in Psirri
The kitchen is a few steps from Monastiraki Square, in Psirri. The chef meets you on the rooftop terrace.
Cook the Pies and the Moussaka
You make two traditional pies, spinach and milk, a moussaka, a Greek island-style salad and tzatziki, chatting with the chef about Greek and Mediterranean cooking as you go.
Order Drinks at the Bar
Dinner is included, drinks are not: a full wine list and bar are available, and wine pairing can be arranged on the spot. The class is vegetarian-friendly; there is no gluten-free option.

On the Roof
Cooking Above the Rooftops of Athens
Which classes really cook and eat on a roof, what they make, and what is not included.
Athens has a handful of cooking classes that end not in a studio but on a roof, with dinner served as the Acropolis is lit up across the city. They are the evening version of the Athens cooking class, and they are the ones people book for a birthday or the last night of a trip.
The view is the draw, but the cooking is real. These are hands-on classes, and the dinner is the food you made.

How the evening runs
The class at the top of this page is Athens Walks’ rooftop class in Psirri, a few steps from Monastiraki Square. The chef meets you on the rooftop terrace. After a short introduction to the ingredients and a talk about Greek and Mediterranean cooking, you start on two traditional pies, spinach pie and milk pie, then a moussaka, an island-style salad with cherry tomatoes and aged local vinegar, and tzatziki.
When the cooking is done, you sit down to dinner with views of the Acropolis and the Parthenon lit at night, and of the dome of Aghios Dimitrios church below. The class runs about four hours.
It costs from $114 per person, rated 5.0 from 519 reviews (checked October 2026), with free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
Check dates for the rooftop class
Two things to know before you book. Drinks are not included: there is a full wine list and bar on the spot, and wine pairing can be arranged there. And while the class is vegetarian-friendly, there is no gluten-free option.
Rooftop or Acropolis-view studio?
Not every class with a view cooks on a roof. Some cook in a studio and eat on a terrace or by a window looking towards the hill. That is no worse a class, but it is a different evening, so check where the meal is served.

When to book
The view is best after dark, so these are evening classes. In summer the sun sets around 20:30 and dinner on the roof runs late, which is when Athenians eat anyway. In winter the evenings are cool on an open terrace; bring a layer. Rooftop dinners in the heat of July and August are pleasant once the sun is down.
If you would rather cook in the morning and see the market, the market class is the better fit, and for a lower price the roof-garden class near Panormou serves its meal outdoors too, without the Acropolis.
